“Megagauss-14” International Conference.
“Megagauss-14” International Conference. “Megagauss-14” International Conference.On 14 – 19 October, 2012, the International Conference “Megagauss-14” was held in the USA. The delegation from the Russian Nuclear Center was headed by the Director of the Scientific-Technical Center of the Physics of High Energy Densities Viktor Selemir. The conferences of this type are arranged since 1965 to study the basic topic of interest: generation of strong pulsed magnetic fields in case of discharge of capacitor bank or via explosion and behavior of different materials under the effect of such fields. The present Conference considered the problems of generation of strong magnetic pulsed currents and their application in physical experiments.
Traditionally megagauss conferences are held in the USA, Russia, Germany, Great Britain and China. VNIIEF, in particular, hosted “Megagauss-7” and “Megagauss-9” conferences. The experts from the Nuclear Center participated in all of these conferences, both directly by presenting their reports and indirectly in the form of poster sessions.
The basic participants of the present Conference are VNIIEF and Los-Alamos National laboratory. Another traditional participants to these conferences are Lawrence Livermore NL and Sandia NL. This time it was the delegation of the Weapon Laboratory of the US Air Force and the Texas Technical University, who were also present. The Russian Federation was represented by IVTAN, Moscow, the Institute of Chemical Physics, Chernogolovka, the Institute of Hydro-Dynamics, Novosibirsk, Saint-Petersburg Technical University. Recently the activities under this topic were actively pursued by China and South Korea. Some of the conferences are also participated by the scientists from India, Canada, Czech republic and Belorussia.
