On the 24 of April, 2012, the International Conference “Twenty years of collaboration of the nuclear centers of Rosatom and the US national laboratories” The nuclear scientists of both countries gathered to give estimates to 20 years of collaboration and to discuss the prospects.The Conference, hosted at the ancient Sarov land, was opened by the scientific leader of RFNC-VNIIEF, academician R.I. Il’kayev. He greeted those present and narrated about his vision of cooperation with the American counterpart. “Our collaboration with the USA national laboratories encompasses the widest spectrum, including such crucial points as safety and security of nuclear munitions and its non-proliferation. Together with our American colleagues we’ve done a lot”, - said VNIIEF scientific leader.
As a result of joint activities into NW nuclear safety several thousands of the unique containers assigned for transportation of nuclear components were made in the USA and further used in Russia. The Russian and American scientists, after having verified together the behavior of the containers in case of emergency, produced some portion of the same in Russia in a follow-up stage. The containers were specifically reinforced for the purpose of transportation of special munitions. The joint Russian-American developments were implemented for construction of the huge storage facilities for fissile components of nuclear weapons, such as uranium and plutonium.
The city mayor Aleksey Golubev told about those people, who played the most important role in the process of cooperation and thanked the American colleagues.
“International cooperation was never constrained by business relations only. It was far more wide, including development of museums and interaction of city communities, which provided the powerful platform here in Sarov for our successful progress. This was also mentioned by all the experts, involved into the activities dealing with informational cluster in our country. These were just the provisions that allowed us to participate in the tender, announced by the Ministry for Economical Development. Our achievements inspired us to win the competition”, - underlined the mayor of Sarov.
The Conference proceeded with another meaningful reports, made by the Russian and American scientists and was closed on the 26 of April, 2012. ‹ Назад
