The ceremonial meeting of the scientific-technical council of the nuclear weapon complex was held to commemorate the 110 anniversary of Yuily Khariton and the 100 anniversary of Yakov Zeldovitch

On the 18 of March the ceremonial meeting of the scientific-technical council of the nuclear weapon complex was held to commemorate the 110 anniversary of Yuily Khariton and the 100 anniversary of Yakov Zeldovitch. The representatives of ROSATOM, the Department of Defense of the RF, the Institute of Strategic Stability, the 12 Central Scientific-Research Institute, VNIITF, NIIIS, the leaders and the experts of VNIIEF took part at the meeting.
The Director of VNIIEF Valentin Kostiykov named the meeting to be “momentous” since it was dedicated to the memory of the two outstanding scientists of the age.
“It is the matter of great importance for us that the pleiad of the Soviet scientists who were the founders of our common course be commemorated not only by those who participated in the atomic project personally, but also by those future generations, which are about to become the elite of Russian scientific community of today and of tomorrow” – said the Director of VNNIEF.
While opening the ceremonial meeting, the scientific advisor of VNIIEF academician Radiy Il’kayev, among other things, addressed Moscow authorities in the name of the RF Academy of Sciences and all the scientific community, asking them to name one of the streets of the capital after Yakov Zeldovitch. It was also agreed that the memorial boards will be installed at the buildings, where the great scientist used to work, including the Institute of Chemical Physics, the Institute of Space Research and the Institute of the Applied Mathematics of the RF Academy of Sciences.
In the course of the meeting the reports and the reminiscences narrating about the life stories and the creative activities of the two prominent scientists were presented.
