The delegation comprised of the directors of the USA national laboratories and the leaders of the Russian nuclear weapon institutions visited the Russian Federal Nuclear Center VNIIEF on 19 June, 2012

The guests visited the basic VNIIEF departments, the production sites, including the radiation complex “Pulsar” and four-channel neodymium facility “Lutch”. When addressing the press the American colleges noted the great importance of international collaboration and development of fundamental and applied science.
On the 20 of June the session was held in the House of Scientists, where the leaders of the State Corporation ROSATOM and the representatives of the US weapon labs presented their reports. The director of VNIIEF Valentin Kostyukov in his report presented the basic activities pursued by VNIIEF, especially those related to international projects into lasers, nuclear physics, physics of high energy density and directed radiation fluxes, mathematical simulation and so on. He also tackled social policy the Institute is following as far as maintaining the scientific potential. Educational programs imply special training of graduates, who are looking for employment in the institutes incorporated into atomic industry. The program of innovational development of VNIIEF till 2020 was announced, implying establishment of the production cluster at the territory of the closed administrative community of Sarov, which is believed to provide for successful implementation of commercial and scientific backlog. Valentin Kostyukov expressed his hope, that all the proposals and projects, presented at the session will be transformed into the concrete business in the nearest future. “The coincidence of our opinions about the future collaboration makes us happy. Our respective countries bear the responsibility for reinforcement of global safety and security as well as maintaining the non-proliferation issue up to date. It is our mission to provide all the required backgrounds and to retain the high-qualified experts, capable to solve the most challenging tasks. It would have been hardly possible without international cooperation in place”, - underlined the director of VNIIEF.
