CRDF Project: Research Cooperation Program
In March 2005 the CRDF project
“Compilation and
evaluation of alpha induced nuclear reaction cross sections for astrophysics” was successfully
completed.
For the 24Mg+a, 28Si+a,
32S+a, 36Ar+a and 40Ca+a
systems the parameters of optical potential, used to calculate cross-sections of nuclear reactions
using Hauser-Feshbach statistical model, were obtained. To determine the Woods – Saxon potential
with surface absorption a system approach, whose basic principles are described in a technical
report, were used. The SCAT2 program was used in this work to describe the differential
cross-sections of elastic scattering in order to find parameters of the optical potential. The
NON-SMOKER program code was applied to calculate radiative capture cross-sections.
As a first step, a search was done for all available experimental data for the alpha-induced
reactions on the above-specified nuclei within the energy range from 0 to 20 MeV. All of
the selected experimental data were compiled and are now widely accessible through the
International Library EXFOR.
Some of the results of this project were presented at the conference “Nuclear Data for Science and
Technology” (Proceedings of the International Conference on Nuclear Data for Science and Technology,
Santa Fe, New Mexico, September 26 - October 1, 2004).
